Just out of curiosity, how did the Theory get developed as it is so radically different from any other models of story currently doing the rounds...???

ANSWER:

Oh, you like the easy questions ( :>) ). The short answer is that it was initially developed by "accident", meaning that what the authors original intent (to write a simple book of screenwriting tips) went wildly astray and led them into areas of human psychology for which neither of them had "training". I guess that was a good thing since it eventually led to a new theory of story. You'll have to wait (perhaps for a VERY long time) before any more robust explanation is recorded.
