Here are the effects we're striving for:

  • Mystery: a dramatic effect where the characters are aware of something that the audience doesn't know.

  • Irony: a dramatic effect where the audience is aware of something the characters don't know.

  • Suspense: a dramatic effect where both the audience and the characters are unaware of what's really going on.

There are several ways of achieving these effects with Dramatica.  We may expect that, with the creation of each new story, Dramatica users will discover several more new ways.  So, to get us started, here's a description of some of the more familiar, time-tested methods of achieving Mystery, Suspense and Irony with the help of Dramatica:
