Thorough Development: The Query System

Tailors have this saying about making suits, "It is easier to make a piece from scratch than to fix one that's already made."

I don't know if that's true in tailoring, but it sure is true for writers.

The rewriting process and the final stages of thorough development of a rough draft are the trickiest parts of completing a screenplay.  These are the steps when we can make a good story superb, or ruin it all and turn it into incomprehensible garbage.  Many writers freak out at this point and instead of truly rewriting, throw away everything and write a whole new story, keeping just the characters' names and a couple of events they liked.

But there's no need to do that, nor is it always possible.
