Chapter 15 Note And Sketch Development Muses
never tell a story from beginning to end, do they? No,
most times they just whisper a situation or a scene
description that immediately strikes us as an excellent
idea for a movie. This inspires a couple of characters,
a handful of scenes, and perhaps, a title. From
there, the inspiration flow stops abruptly, and the
Muses leave the writer alone to finish the story by
himself with half a dozen unrelated items. Darned
Muses! That's
why we have structures—dramatic blueprints that
allow us to develop those unrelated items, those scattered
bits of inspiration into a complete story. Yep,
structures are a creative blessing. The
trick is to find the right one for our particular
story. Do that and we're home free. |
