If you're like me, the part of a cake you enjoy most is the icing.

But, if you're like me, you've also found out that too much icing—or worse, pure icing—will make you sick.

We found out that last one the hard way, didn't we?

Like a cake, a character needs two layers to be complete.

The dough of a character is his Personality—his inner drives, his desires, his limitations and principles.  These are the traits that'd let a character stand and progress through the story.  It is the magic wand that'll touch the audience's heart, make them cry and fall in love with him.
