Genre and the Dramatica Domains

Genres With No Specific Setting.  Other kinds of movies have stories so heterogeneous that is not possible to determine a Domain to fit the whole Genre. 

These include:

  • Genres Defined Only By Its Target Audience (such as Family Appeal Stories and Children/Juvenile Movies),

  • Genres Described By Its Backdrop (Sport Films, Historical Pieces, and Musicals), and the...

  • Reality Genres (Documentaries, Docudramas and Biographies). 

The key here is to focus on our own story and determine the Domain on its own.

That's the skinny on Genres and the Dramatica Domains —but we must keep in mind that Genres evolve and step into new territories every day.  We should start then with the suggested Domains and then try something fresh (a Universe Domain to add terror to our Mystery, a Mind Domain to add social depth to our Police Story).  We must know our Genre and renew it with our screenplay—our movie deserves it.

We have nearly enough elements to complete a Storyform.  Now, let's see a way to evaluate it, to see if it's the story we really want to write or how we could change it to get it right.
