CHAPTER 5

Genre And The Main And Impact Characters

Who are our most important Characters?

What's our movie all about?

Choosing our central Characters is more than just populating our movie. These Characters hold the key to solving the plot's central problem and the standpoint from where the audience is going to watch the development of our story.  By deciding who are our most important Characters we determine what our movie is all about.

Dramatica addresses this matter with a unique concept: the Main and Impact Characters.  These are more than fictional persons. They are the inner core of our story, provide the necessary reference to understand our Theme, represent essential parts of our Plot, ultimately define the Genre, and make it possible to tell the story we want to tell.

Now, if the Characters dictate what kind of movie we're writing, we should define which kind of movie we want to write in order to choose its perfect Characters.  Is this pure logic or what?
