INTRODUCTION: WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS reading THE LOWDOWN ON THIS BOOK This may seem as a "Dramatica For Dim-Wits" kind of manual, but it's not. Mostly because you're not a dimwit. But also because, due to the nature of Dramatica --a software tool for creative writing-- this book had to take a more creative approach: it had to merge software reference, inspirational exercises, and literary theory; it had to be part "DOS Quick Guide," part "What Would Happen If...?" and part "Aristotle's Poetics." So don't expect the instructions to be as concrete as "Press the ENTER key..." or "Type C:/Setup..." but rather as imaginative as "Visualize your characters as people you know..." or "Think of several possibilities for the scene at hand—." This book will ask you to be inventive and productive, inspired, original, and much more. This book is not intended merely to instruct you on Dramatica's functions, but to help you use it to write well-developed and entertaining stories. And isn't that what you want to do in the first place? |
