COMBINING TIME AND SPACE WITH ACT STRUCTURES

To reiterate:

  • The temporal relationships in a quad describe the sequence of the acts.

  • The spatial relationships in a quad describe what is examined in each act.

 

ACT TRANSITIONS

The transitions between acts as they appear in a quad can be seen as either "straight" or "diagonal."

A straight transition describes either horizontal or vertical movement (e.g. companion pair or dependent pair relationship) such as the transition between 1 and 2 in examples 6A and 6B below:
