DRAMATICA E - NEWSLETTER #3

May 1995

Dear Dramatica User,

DRAMATICA PRO UPDATE:

Dramatica Update forms are *finally* being dropped into the mail on Tuesday. You should receive them shortly. I will be composing a list of update changes to send to you shortly. By the way, we have definitively corrected the rare but annoying "Zero Storyform Error"!

DRAMATICA USER'S GROUP:

Our next User's Group Meeting will be May 10 and the film we will be discussing is Francis Ford Coppolla's "The Godfather." Watch the film at home and try your hand at working out a storyform for it in Dramatica. During the meeting, we will analyze this film's storyform together and discuss the storyforming issues which come up in this complex film. Chris will be your host for this special film's analysis.

This will also be an opportunity for us to discuss the latest developments in the Dramatica software. Meeting time is from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10th.

DRAMATICA ON WORLD-WIDE WEB!

You asked for it, you got it: Dramatica now has it's own home page on the World Wide Web! The URL (Universal Resource Locator) is:

Note that's "dramatic", not "Dramatica". The Home Page is not entirely finished, but we will be publishing articles and other resources about the Dramatica software and theory there shortly. Give us a visit, and send your comments to Dramatica@Screenplay.com!

STORYFORMING JOURNAL - Vol II, No 1.:

The new issue of the Storyforming newsletter has been shipped. This issue contains some of the exciting new information about Dramatica Genres. The journal is now by subscription (sorry -- it got to expensive to produce for free for so many people). The cost is $29.95 for the four issues. We've also produced back issues of the previous four volumes, which many of you requested. Give us a call at 1-800-84-STORY and we can send you the order form.

SHOWBIZ EXPO:

We'll have our usual booth at the Los Angeles ShowBiz Expo, which will be at the LA Convention Center from Saturday June 10th through Monday June 12th. Drop by and say hi!

DRAMATICA THEORY INTENSIVE WEEKEND WORKSHOP:

A Dramatica Theory Intensive Weekend Workshop will be given on the weekend of July 8th. This two day, in-depth introduction to the Dramatica Theory of story will be taught by the theory's developers, Melanie Anne Phillips and Chris Huntley and will cover Characters, Plot, Theme, Storyforming vs. Storytelling, the 12 essential questions, and much more. The workshop will be held at the Screenplay Systems office and include insights into story that are not available anywhere else--not even in the current versions of the Dramatica Pro and Lite software. The workshop will begin at 9:00 each morning and go to 6:00pm on Saturday and 5:00pm on Sunday. All of this will cost only $249.95 for the entire workshop. For more information, or reservations, call 1-800-84-STORY ext. 532 in the U.S.A. (1-818-843-6557 ext. 532 for international calls) or leave your requests here on the BBS in the Dramatica Conference, "Courses Offered" folder. Space is extremely limited, so make your reservations now.

In the future, material from the entire original 9 class series of Dramatica workshops will be available on audio cassette. The first of these, the Dramatica Basics audio cassette, is currently for sale for $29.95 (+ tax). Additional cassettes will be produced and available soon. For more information or to order, call 1-800-84-STORY.

That's all (for now)
